Santa arrives by pontoon boat across Mineral Lake.
Children join Santa for carols around a huge Christmas tree set up near the lake.
Christmas in Mineral: A new tradition begins
Almost one hundred people gathered on the banks of Mineral Lake last Saturday night to welcome Santa Claus to the tiny mountain town. Santa arrived by pontoon boat at the pier of the Lions' campground, where bonfires kept the crowd warm and cheery until he arrived.

Like a scene from "The Pied Piper," children and adults followed Santa from the water, up the banks to a huge Christmas tree. To traditional Christmas carols, the tree was lit for the first time.

Santa visited with children and posed for photos, then got on board a well-lit Koutney Trucking lowboy with as many guests as could squeeze in. The truck circled around Mineral a few times, pausing at the Mineral Events Center where the Alaskan Grill was cooking supper and craftspeople tidied up from the first day of their Mineral bazaar.

This new tradition was organized by Ramona and Ron Shepherd, owners of Mineral Lake Lodge, and lots of local helpers.
