Voters in Tacoma’s Metropolitan Parks District are deciding a $191 million bond measure that would include funding for new facilities at Northwest Trek near Eatonville.
The vote-by-mail election will end April 22. The measure that the district’s commissioners decided in February to put before voters is based on a public study that lasted several years and produced a capital improvement plan for the parks system.
If the bond measure passes, the wildlife park wold receive funding for the construction of Kids Trek, which is a hands-on, nature-themed play area for children; a pedestrian bridge to the Hellyer Center, which hosts classes, meetings, banquets and other events; and upgrades to animal facilities.
