It’s not only a new season, but also a virtually new team for Eatonville’s Cruisers as they head into the 2013 high school football season.
The squad that steps onto its home field this Friday against Orting won’t have the starting quarterback, top running back or top wide receiver, and few of the starters overall, including most of the linemen, from last year’s team that was a Nisqually League powerhouse and reached the post season playoffs.
But George Fairhart, who’s in his 21st year as the Cruisers’ coach, is optimistic. While his team players generally are inexperienced, they’re aggressive and physical. That toughness, combined with a competitive attitude, will be a strength, he said.
The new season begins at 7 p.m. Friday in non-league fashion against Orting. The Cardinals, members of the South Puget Sound League 3A, are coming off a 6-5 record in 2012 that included a first-round loss to Burlington-Edison in the state playoffs.
