State Sen. Randi Becker has been named to the Legislative Committee on Economic Development and International Relations, a 13-member state panel headed by Lieutenant Governor Brad Owen and promoting Washington trade and tourism.
The committee, which includes three Democrats and three Republicans apiece from the Senate and House of Representatives, plans to meet regularly to review and update economic development strategies, promote the state’s products and services, and focus on improving the state’s business climate.
Becker, a Republican from the Eatonville area, represents the Second District, which includes Mount Rainier National Park, a major tourism attraction.
“I’ve always taken great pride in promoting our region and our state,” Becker said. “Everyone agrees that to fully recover from the recent economic downturn, our state is going to have to explore new markets and new methods to grow our economy. That’s going to be challenging.”
