Forum: Big money and state Senate

10:23 am February 18th, 2013

Under Initiative 960, any bill introduced in the Legislature that would increase taxpayer expenses must have a 10-year estimate of its cost. Here are two of the latest offerings from the state Senate:
• Senate Bill 5248 would create an yearly cost to taxpayers of $13,493,800 (as in millions) for the continued use of plastic shopping bags.
• Senate Bill 5166 would authorize an income tax and do away with the B&O (business and occupation) tax and sales taxes at an average increased cost to the taxpayers of only $3,276,842,600 (that is billions) per year.
We are in danger; the Senate is in session.
