With her husband helping do the honors, Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy has taken the oath of office for her second term that officially begins this month.
The oath was administered by Superior Court Judges John McCarthy, who is her spouse, and Ronald Culpepper.
McCarthy was re-elected in the general election last November for another four years as the executive head of county government. She is the fifth person to serve as Pierce County’s executive.
McCarthy said she is proud of the efforts by county employees to improve customer service amid what she described as the toughest economic conditions in generations.
“It’s a privilege to serve,” she said. “I am impressed each day by the enthusiasm and commitment to public service I see in every (county) department. I’m excited about the opportunities we have to keep making our community even better.”
