State Sen. Randi Becker, a Republican from the Eatonville area, has been named chairwoman of the Senate Healthcare Committee.
Her position is part of a new coalition caucus of Republican and Democrat senators for the Legislature’s 2013 session that opens next month.
Two Democrats pledged Dec. 10 to work with the 23 Republicans in the Senate to create the “majority coalition.”
“The public is hungry for Olympia to come together and work cooperatively on our most important priorities – jobs, education and the budget,” said Sen. Rodney Tom, one of the crossover Democrats.
The coalition is dividing chairmanlships of committees between the two parties. Becker said that type of shared leadership is “unprecedented.”
