Meridian beat Eatonville 26-15 Saturday in the class 1A high school football district playoffs.
In the game at Sunset Stadium in Sumner that decided which team would stay in the hunt for the state championship and which team’s season would end, Meridian led 19-9 at halftime and 19-15 after three periods. The Trojans wrapped up their victory when Max McGuinn recovered his team’s fumble in the end zone for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Eatonville, which finished its season with a 7-3 record, got its touchdowns on a 45-yard pass play between Caleb Keefer and quarterback Zach Fairhart and Fairhart’s 28-yard run. The first score, coming in the first quarter, gave the Cruisers their only lead at 7-6.
