Recent rain and forecasts for more of it has brought an end to a ban on outdoor burning in Pierce County.
The ban was lifted at noon Monday by the county fire marshal. A statewide ban also has been removed because of the more favorable conditions that have replaced a long dry spell that contributed to major wildfires, particularly in eastern Washington.
While the high-risk conditions appear to be over, the lifting of the burn ban doesn’t affect those areas in Pierce County where burning is prohibited because of environmental or pollution laws, nor in areas where local fire districts restrict or prohibit fires. Those restrictions are still in place, officials said..
