Washington Aerospace Scholars has selected Eli Olson, an Eatonville High School student, for one of the program’s four summer residency sessions held in June and July at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
The program (WAS) is a competitive educational activity for high school juniors from across the state. Olson is among 160 students who earned summer residencies out of an original field of 297 students who applied last November.
To qualify, the students spent five months studying in a NASA-designed, distance-learning curriculum via the Internet. They were chosen based on their academic performance in the online lessons.
During the residencies, they will work together on planning a human mission to Mars. They’ll be mentored by professional engineers, scientists, university students and certified educators.
